How do we get the job done?
We strive to implement the most up to date and productive equipment available. We use Global Positioning System and Electronic Total Stations coupled with electronic data collectors in the field. In the office we use computer aided coordinate geometry and drafting software. Data flows to and from all the equipment which reduces the potential for human error and increases productivity. Many times, written agreements are required to outline the work required.
What is our background?
The owner, Joseph A Langhauser, has been registered as a surveyor since 1980 and has been working in surveying since 1973. He served as President of the Illinois Professional Land Surveyor’s Association during the 1990-1991 term. He was awarded the Pat Paterson Achievement Award by the Illinois Professional Land Surveyor’s Association in 2000. Mr. Langhauser has developed a reputation of strong professional ethics and vast knowledge in the surveying field. Area attorneys frequently turn to him with survey and boundary dispute questions. He has served as an expert witness on several survey boundary cases.

What are the costs associated with a Survey?
Professional fees are rarely based on the physical size of the property. Fees at Abacus are based on the amount of time and expertise required to provide the requested services.
What information does the surveyor need from the client?
Surveyors need to know the location of the property, why there is a need for a survey and when it needs to be completed. A copy of a deed or title commitment if preferred, but with technology, sometimes an address or Parcel Identification Number will suffice, in order to obtain an estimate of the possible fees that could be associated with the work.
Information regarding clients, estimates and possible land divisions are kept confidential until the client chooses to release such information.
